Can I install this system myself? Yes, even someone with no experience can easily install all our wire balustrade systems. We even have simple step by step instructions available to view or download, click on the instructions tab for details.
Do I need any special tools?
Purchasing Factory Swaged Wires: If purchasing the ProRig Flip-Lock System factory swaged; your wires will arrive to your door manufactured to your exact lengths. You will only require common handyman tools such as an electric drill, allen keys, drill bits etc to install. We also recommend the use of a ProRig Multi Tool for easier installation.
Purchasing Components Only: If purchasing the ProRig Flip-Lock System components only; you will require a hydraulic press (in addition to common handyman tools) to correctly swage the components to the wire, contact your local supplier for details on this. We also recommend the use of a ProRig Multi Tool for easier installation.
What size and type of stainless steel wire do I use? This system is recommended for use with 3.2mm 1 x 19 - 316 grade stainless steel wire rope. This wire is the most functional for stainless steel wire balustrade systems due to its bright surface finish, attractive appearance, durability, strength and low stretch. To ensure a high quality finish to your balustrade we recommended the use of ultra high quality ProRig Wire Rope.
What spacing do I need between my wires? When using 3.2mm 1 x 19 stainless steel wire, you will usually need 80mm spacing (usually 11 runs) between your wires when using a standard one (1) meter high handrail (960mm to the underside) with 1200-1500mm post spacing. Can I use this balustrade system on a stair or angled section? Yes, the ProRig Flip-Lock System can easily be used on a stair or angled sections using Bevelled Washers.
What size hole should I drill in my end posts? You will require a 6mm hole for the Flip Toggle end (inside face only), 7.5mm for the Swage Stud (inside face only), and a 9mm hole for the Hex Head Tensioner end (outside face only).
What size hole should I drill through my intermediate posts? A 7.5mm hole through your intermediate posts will allow the swage stud to pass through. Please note: If you are using grommets, the required drill size is 11/32" at a depth of at least 10mm from each side.
What is the maximum length run I can do? The ProRig Flip-Lock System can easily span up to 10 meters. Tensioners can be used on both ends to achieve longer runs. Please contact your supplier for further information prior to ordering.
Can I take my balustrade wire around corners? It is highly recomended not to take the balustrade wire around corners with this system.
Can I use this system if I have timber posts? No, however the ProRig Stop-Lock System suits timber posts and will give your balustrade a similar look.
